My 3 Angels
by Samuel & Bella Spewack
Directed by Geoff Banwell
This play, by Sam and Bella Spewack, is based on the French play La Cuisine Des Anges by Albert Husson, and is set in 1910 in French Guiana, a region where on Christmas day the temperature has dropped to 104 degrees.
Three convicts are employed by a family of shopkeepers to repair their roof, which is in desperate need of maintenance. On the way from France is a duplicitous cousin intending to oust the father of the family from his business, and his cold-blooded nephew who is jilting the father's daughter for an heiress. The three convictstwo murderers and a swindlerhave formed an affection for the somewhat dysfunctional family, and decide to save them from the visitors. Despite their crimes they are shown to have warm hearts and a (somewhat unconventional) belief in true justice. Using their own particular talents, they set matters right for the grateful family and in doing so redeem themselves as real life angels.
